Rediscovering Your Smile With Dentures
If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, a complete set of dentures can give you back your smile. Dentures are false teeth made to replace teeth you have lost, and can be complete or partial.
Advances in dentistry have made many improvements in dentures. They are more natural looking and comfortable than in the past. And replacing your missing teeth will greatly benefit your appearance as well as your health. Without support from teeth, facial muscles sag, making a person appear older. Dentures will also enable you to eat and speak normally—things people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost.
Types of Dentures:
The full denture plate replaces an entire set of natural teeth. They have the full acrylic mouth piece that adheres to the gums and roof of your mouth. A precise fitting is necessary in order to achieve the level of suction needed to ensure a secure fit for your dentures. Standard dentures typically take four visits to design and manufacture and fit.
The partial denture can be used for one tooth or several. Partial denture plates are made in much the same way as full dentures, but are easier to fit since they cover a smaller area. The main difference is that partial dentures depend more on being attached to the teeth with special clips and are less dependent on suction.
Good oral hygiene continues to be very important even once your natural teeth are gone. Make sure to brush your gums, tongue and palate regularly before you insert your dentures to stimulate circulation and help remove plaque.
