Dental Implants and Veneers Abroad
Interested in dramatically changing the look of your smile? Dental implants and veneers may be what you're looking for. These procedures can give you the full, straight, white smile you've always wanted.
Surprisingly, statistics show that 69% of adults age 35-44 have lost at least one permanent tooth, and by age 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth. Lost teeth can cause many problems, including causing other teeth to shift, affecting your ability to chew and digest food properly and they can even make you look years older than you are. Today, the most successful dental option for treating tooth loss is a dental implant. A dental implant is a small metal post surgically placed in the jawbone that anchors the tooth and is capped with a dental crown. A full denture or fixed bridge can also be anchored for better stability and comfort.
Dental Implants are:
- Strong and durable-with consistent care, implants may last a lifetime
- Natural looking-due in part to the integration into the bone structure
- Highly successful -overall success rate for dental implants is around 95%
- A permanent solution – options like dentures and bridges often require replacement
- Easily maintained –treat implants like natural teeth
- Better for surrounding teeth –since they are not used for support (as they are with bridges).
- A comfortable way to anchor a denture or bridge
Implants are positioned in the jawbone by a surgeon, duplicating the stability and strength that a natural tooth root would provide. Over a few months the implant fuses with the jawbone. Then, the replacement tooth or crown is placed on top of the implant, replicating the look and functionality of your natural tooth. Implants in the U.S. range from $2,000-$4,000 each. In Mexico and other countries, costs can be up to 75% less per tooth.
Dental veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they create a bright, white smile with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth. Veneers are custom-designed shells of wafer-thin, tooth-colored ceramic material that are bonded to the teeth's surface to improve their appearance. They can change the color, shape and size of your teeth. They can also cover worn enamel, correct uneven alignment or spacing and hide chips or cracks.
Veneers are made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better and retain more of the light-reflective qualities of natural teeth than resin veneers do. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement.
If you are interested in veneers, plan on a 3-5 day trip. The first day is spent prepping the teeth and taking impressions, which are then sent to the lab, while you spend a few days enjoying the local sites. A few days later, you will return for a second appointment to have the veneers bonded to your teeth. You’ll return home with an amazing new smile!
