Singapore’s official website claims 374,000 medical travelers in 2005. The following developments demonstrate Singapore’s leadership in the medical travel destination:
• A Director of Healthcare sits on the Singapore Tourism Board (Dr Jason Yap).
• Singapore has nine hospitals and two medical centers with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation - more accredited facilities than any other country in Asia Pacific.
• Singapore is home to John's Hopkins International Medical (JCAHO accredited since August 4, 2004).
• In recognition of Singapore’s leading role in the medical travel industry, accreditation agency JCI established Asia-Pac offices in Singapore in 2006.
• Singapore has pioneered International Patient Liaison Centres specifically designed to meet medical traveler needs
Singapore is also host to the first International Medical Travel Conference (IMTC) and is currently driving the formation of the International Medical Travel Association.
